The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Board of Management Audit Committee participated in the 22nd Internal Audit Annual Seminar, Second Edition, held from 4th to 7th November in Mombasa.
Convened under the theme “Internal Audit in Transition: Advancing with Agility and Resilience,” the seminar focused on the evolving role of internal auditors in navigating today’s complex operational environment. The discussions highlighted opportunities to strengthen internal audit functions as trusted advisors across public, private, and not-for-profit organizations.
The KEMRI Board Audit Committee members in attendance were Dr. Damaris Maweu, Mr. Luka Chemowolo, Mr. Christopher Marwa, Ms. Wangui Njenga, and Ms. Vivian Chebii. They were accompanied by Deputy Director Internal Audit, Patrick Gitau and Legal Officer, Ms. Beverly Olango.
Key topics explored during the seminar included the state of the internal audit profession in Kenya, artificial intelligence and its role in driving agility, investment strategies, global internal audit standards, and emerging technologies. Participants also covered supply chain resilience, digitization of public procurement through e-Government platforms, ethical leadership, crisis management, and the disciplinary and oversight framework for internal auditors, among other areas.
