KEMRI has once again proven its commitment to excellence by attaining an outstanding performance rating in the just concluded Annual Performance Contract (PC) Evaluation conducted by office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSPMU) on 29th October 2025.
This remarkable achievement marks the second consecutive year that the Institute has earned a “Very Good” rating, reaffirming its position among top-performing public institutions in the country. The consistent performance underscores the Institute’s dedication to delivering on its mandate through effective leadership, accountability, and a results-driven organizational culture.
The annual evaluation exercise assessed the achievement of the set targets for the Financial Year 2024/2025 using a five-point rating scale ranging from 1.00 (Excellent) to 5.00 (Poor). KEMRI achieved a composite performance score of 2.8940, reflecting an improvement from the 2.9488 attained in FY 2023/2024, a positive progression that reaffirms commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
The evaluation focused on key thematic areas, namely: financial stewardship, service delivery, core mandate (research and development), presidential directives, and cross-cutting indicators, which underscore the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and impact in public service delivery.


Speaking after receiving the results from the PSPMU team, Ag. Director General, Prof. Elijah Songok, thanked all the staff for their collective effort in ensuring implementation of planned activities and compiling necessary documentation. He further commended the Directorate of Strategy and Compliance led by Mr. Edwin Bett for coordinating a successful performance management process.
“I wish to express my deepest gratitude to every member of the KEMRI team for playing an integral role in this achievement. We should, however, continue striving toward an Excellent performance. Let us remain focused, committed, and aim even higher in our continuous quest for better health,” said Prof. Songok.
On his part, the Director of Strategy and Compliance, expressed appreciation to the management for the support extended during the preparation and conduct of the evaluation exercise. He also highlighted the need for continuous improvement, stating:
“This process would not have been successful without the invaluable support of the management team. I wish to underscore the critical importance of fostering synergy and collaboration across all arms of the Institute. It is only through a united and coordinated approach that KEMRI can continue to strengthen its institutional performance,” added Mr. Bett.
The “Very Good” rating reinforces KEMRI’s pivotal role in health research and innovation in search for better health.
