February 11, 2024Momentous occasion as KEMRI hosts high level meeting
It was a rare occasion for the Institute to host a galaxy of government leaders and officials from the Ministry of Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management led by its Cabinet Secretary Hon. Moses Kuria, and the Ministry of Health’s Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula last Thursday, 25th, January 2024 at the KEMRI Graduate School in Nairobi.
Three Permanent Secretaries, Ms. Mary Muthoni (Public Health and Professional Standards), Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services), Ms. Veronica Nduva (Performance and Delivery Management) together with Secretary to the Cabinet Ms. Mercy Wanjau and Dr. Patrick Amoth (Ag. Director General MoH) were also part of this unusual gathering at the Institute.
Besides the several other departmental and sectional leaders from the three key government leadership, the icing on the cake was the presence of over 20 Chief Executive Officers and heads of the Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) from MoH including the hosts, KEMRI Board of Director’s Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ali and Ag. DG Prof. Elijah Songok.
This was during what has been dubbed as the ‘Government of Kenya Lab Report’, which is essentially a performance and delivery engagement by the State Department of Public Service, Performance and Delivery of key government agenda, under the Bottom-up Economic Transformative Agenda (BETA) dispensation. Last week’s meeting at the Institute provided an opportunity for CS Nakhumicha and her troupes at MoH and CEOs to deliver their performance report, take stock of achievements and identify gaps to inform future actions as per key performance indicators.
The welcome party at the Institute included the Chairman Dr. Abdullahi and Ag. DG Prof. Songok who received the Cabinet Secretaries, the PSs and top Ministry leadership at the Boardroom for brief consultative meetings before escorting them at the meeting venue.
The CEOs on the other hand were ushered into the venue by Director Corporate Services Mr. Antony Wachira, Ag. Director Strategy and Compliance, Ag. Mr. Edwin Bett, Deputy Director Supply Chain Management Mr. Kalu Kitaba, Deputy Director ICT Mr. Mahsen Abud, Ag. Human Resource Management Mr. Rowland Muyeshi and Deputy Director Corporate Communications Mr. Davis Mkoji.
Indeed, it was a maiden visit at KEMRI Headquarters for the CS, Nakhumicha and her Public Service counterpart and a host of those present. Despite the very short notice to host, the Institute did not disappoint, but put forward its best foot to warmly welcome the guests. All the five directors and key departments including, but not limited to Supply Chain Management, Security, Human Resources and Corporate Communications gave topnotch performance right from the moment the entourage began arriving into the Institute at 7.30 am to when they said good bye almost 13 hours later.
