Impressive Turnout at Impactful Tinderet Medical Camp.

Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei and KEMRI Ag. DG Prof. Elijah Songok at the Medical Camp.

Over 500 community members from Tinderet Ward, Nandi County, benefited from a two-day, free medical camp organized by KEMRI on 17th and 18th January 2025. The initiative, held in conjunction with the Magical Kenya Trail Series and the Tinderet Barng’etuny Mountain Run National Championship, underscored KEMRI’s dedication to advancing community-driven healthcare and public health awareness.

The medical camp offered a wide range of free health services, directly addressing pressing health issues in the community. These services included screenings for blood sugar, hepatitis B, malaria, and hypertension—key contributors to the rising burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Kenya. Participants also benefited from comprehensive health assessments that focused on educating them about managing chronic conditions.

A central highlight of the event was cancer awareness, particularly for cervical and breast cancers—two of the most prevalent cancers in Kenya. In alignment with Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, over 300 women underwent screenings for cervical and breast cancers, marking a critical step toward early detection and treatment. The KEMRI team was led by Ag. Director General Prof. Elijah Songok who noted the importance community driven initiatives, “This medical camp is a testament to our commitment to improving healthcare access for all Kenyans, particularly in underserved areas like Tinderet Ward.

By providing essential services such as cancer screenings, diabetes management, and hypertension care, we are not only addressing immediate health needs but also raising awareness about the importance of prevention and early detection. It is through such community-driven initiatives that we can create a healthier, more informed society. We hope to do more of these CSR activities in the country”.

The event was officially opened by Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei, who also visited the KEMRI stand to learn more about the ongoing health initiatives. The Medical camp was offered in partnership with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
