Its A Double for KEMRI at the ASK Mombasa International Show

KEMRI has for the third time in a row emerged as the best organization in two of the most coveted categories, ‘Best stand in Research and Development’ and ‘Best Display in the Health Sector & Pharmaceutical Stand’ at the 2023 Mombasa International Trade Fair held at the Mkomani Show grounds, Nyali in Mombasa County from 6th to 10th September, 2023.

The Ag. Director General, Prof. Elijah Songok appreciated the team for their collective effort when he visited the booth on the third day of the show. “It is through dedication and team work that we have been able to achieve this
milestone. The management will continue to offer support where needed for the continuity of exemplary performance not only in this ASK show but all areas including research. I am so grateful that you continue raising the
bar even higher for all of us”. Said a visibly impressed Prof. Songok.

Dr. Martin Rono, a Research scientist from KEMRI Kilifi center representing the Center Deputy Director, Dr. Joseph
Mwangangi received the awards from the Guest of honor H.E Andrew Sesenyi, Botswana High Commissioner to
Kenya during a colorful ceremony at the Mkomani ASK Showground.

“This award is an acknowledgement of the work we do to ensure communities across the region and country are safeguarded through research. It is also a testament of what collective investment from the government, collaborators, and all our partners and a demonstration of the Institute’s impact in human health research.” said an ecstatic Dr. Rono after receiving the award.

With over 100 exhibitors participating in this year’s Mombasa ASK show whose theme was “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth ” KEMRI’s contribution continued to attract members of the public, dignitaries, students, pupils and the media. Among the dignitaries was the guest of honor, H.E Andrew Sesenyi. “This is one of the stands I was looking forward to touring, I am privileged to learn of the great work you
are doing in research, my expectations have been met exceedingly,” said a jubilant H.E Sesenyi when he toured the booth.

The organization’s scientists also addressed the press on the new products that KEMRI is innovating and insightful
information on the cutting-edge research activities, innovations, products & services, and our contribution to
Universal Health Coverage (UHC) proving the important role of information dissemination for the Institute.
