KEMRI partnership with Smile to build regional Research Capacity

KEMRI through its Directorate of Research Capacity Building has partnered with Smile Train to offer a one-of-a-kind Research Methodology training for medical professionals drawn from 6 Central and Eastern African countries. The aim of the program is for participants to identify a research problem, develop a good research question and draft a research proposal for funding consideration.

Leveraging on KEMRI’s unrivalled expertise in human health research and Smile Train’s passion for cleft care and research, the program seeks to impart relevant skills to create the evidence base for cleft care and research in the wider African region and beyond. The training, which consists of a 2-week classroom learning session, 8-week remote mentorship component and a further 10-month supervision for the funded proposals, kicked off today (Monday, 21st February 2022) at the KEMRI Training Centre.

In attendance at the opening ceremony was the Ag. Director General – Prof. Sam Kariuki, the Director Research Capacity Building – Prof. Elijah Songok and the Ag. Deputy Director, Academic Affairs – Dr. Martin Bundi. Smile Train was represented by their Program Director – Ms. Jane Ngige and Mr. Patrick Mwai, among others. This training represents the first phase of the collaboration between KEMRI and Smile Train.
