KEMRI explores partnership with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to advance alternative medicine research
March 19, 2026KEMRI to Co-Host Global Cochrane Infectious Diseases Thematic Group
The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), through Cochrane Kenya, has been selected to co-host the newly established Cochrane Infectious Diseases Thematic Group following a rigorous highly competitive international selection process.
The Thematic Group will be co-hosted in partnership with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (UK) and the Instituto Nacional de Salud (Peru). The collaboration will bring together complementary expertise, creating a strong network for advancing regional and global priorities in infectious diseases evidence synthesis and capacity strengthening.
Cochrane Thematic Groups are designed to convene international experts around priority health areas to coordinate evidence synthesis, promote methodological development, and strengthen the use of research evidence in decision-making. The newly established Infectious Diseases Thematic Group will play an important role in ensuring that policies and practices in this health area are informed by high-quality, globally relevant evidence.
This achievement presents an opportunity to further position KEMRI as a leader in evidence synthesis and global health research. It also contributes to broader regional and global efforts aimed at strengthening the use of evidence in policy and practice, a key pillar in improving health outcomes and advancing resilient health systems.
From KEMRI, the initiative will be co-led by Barbara Miheso and Lilian Mayieka.
Congratulations to the team.
