A GOOD SHOW AT THE 2022 MOMBASA ASK SHOW

KEMRI has once again emerged among the best organizations   in various categories during the 2022 Mombasa International Trade Fair held at the Mkomani Show grounds, Nyali in Mombasa County. 

KEMRI scooped “The best display and services in health sector and Pharmaceuticals stand” and KEMRI further won the second position in other two categories, “The Best local manufacturers stand” and “The Best Theme Interpretation Display in the Education and or Research”. The judges applauded the research institution for its continued leadership role in human health research and impacting lives not only in Kenya and across the globe.

Dr.  Sophie Uyoga, a research scientist from KEMRI Kilifi centre received the awards from the Deputy President H.E. Rigathi Gachagua during a colourful award ceremony at the Mkomani ASK Showground. Said a delighted Dr. Uyoga shortly after receiving the award, “this is a demonstration that the organization is making an impact in human health research and that this award is an acknowledgement of a job well done by all staff and the collective investment by the government, collaborators, and all our partners”.

It is instructive to note that KEMRI had entered for judgment in the four categories and emerged tops. The positions include:

  • The Best Display and Services in Health sector and Pharmaceuticals stand            1st Position
  • The Best Local Manufacturers Stand                                                                                     2nd Position
  • The Best Theme Interpretation Display in the Education and or Research             2nd Position

With more than 125 exhibitors participating in this year’s Mombasa ASK show whose theme was Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade, KEMRI’s   contribution continued to attract members of the public, dignitaries, students, pupils and the media. The organization’s scientists also spoke to the media on new research findings and new products that KEMRI is innovating especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, and lessons learnt. This is the first exhibition after the COVID 19 pandemic in the country.

The performance was warmly received by KEMRI’s Acting Director General Prof. Sam Kariuki through his representative Director of Corporate Services, Anthony Wachira, who congratulated the team for putting up splendid performance and acknowledged the contributions from the KEMRI Board of Directors, the KEMRI Wellcome Trust, and all the staff for making the week-long event successful.

The Chief Guest, Deputy President Gachagua called on Kenyans to embrace technology in enhancing innovations and growing food security in the country.
