DR. ZIPPORAH BUKANIA APPOINTED TO KEY MICRONUTRIENT FORUM

KEMRI’s scientist has been nominated as a Steering Committee member of the Micronutrient Data Innovation Alliance (DInA) of the Micronutrient Forum, a global initiative that champions and equips decision makers to eradicate global micronutrient deficiencies.

Dr. Zipporah Bukania, the Deputy Director in charge of KEMRI’s Centre for Public Health Research (CPHR) joins other distinguished research scientists at this this key DInA committee that will provide the organization with direction, guidance, and advice deemed essential to the long-term effectiveness of the alliance and its mission.

The Steering Committee’s mission is to improve the availability, quality, accessibility, and use of micronutrient data across the value chain to support national-level decision-makers to better design, implement, evaluate, and optimize programs, to ensure their efficiency and effectiveness.

Dr. Bukania is a trained public health nutrition scientist with over 20 years’ experience in clinical nutrition services and research. In addition, she is also an expert in designing and executing assignments focusing majorly on generating evidence to support implementation of nutrition-related programmes not only in Kenya, but also in the region.

She boasts of an impressive history of spearheading nutrition research initiatives ranging from household surveys, stakeholders’ analyses studies, randomized controlled trials and implementation research and strategy development that has reviewed existing national policy.

Dr. Bukania also provides technical supports to the Ministry of Health, Division of Nutrition and Dietetics (DND) and is the chairperson of the Scaling Up Nutrition Academia and Research Network. In addition, Dr. Bukania plays an advisory role to the Livestock for Health (L4H) program of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and is a member of the Global Food Matters Expert Group.
