KEMRI Eyes Stronger Research Collaboration with South Korea

KEMRI is expanding its global research footprint following a high-level diplomatic engagement with Kenya’s envoy to the Republic of Korea, signalling renewed momentum in international scientific collaboration.

During a courtesy call at KEMRI Headquarters, Ambassador Emmy Kipsoi met with Ag. Director General Elijah Songok to explore strategic partnerships with leading Korean institutions, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.

Talks centered on advancing joint research, academic exchange, and capacity building through the KEMRI Graduate School, with a strong emphasis on innovationdriven collaboration and scientific workforce development.

Prof. Songok underscored the critical role of international partnerships in strengthening Kenya’s research ecosystem, noting that collaboration with Korean institutions presents a significant opportunity to enhance competitiveness and expand global impact.

“KEMRI is committed to building strong, strategic partnerships that enhance our research capacity and contribute to global health solutions. Engagement with Korean institutions offers a unique platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and scientific advancement,” he said.

Ambassador Kipsoi reaffirmed Kenya’s diplomatic commitment to fostering such linkages, highlighting Korea’s advanced research infrastructure as a valuable asset for Kenya’s scientific and academic growth.

“There is immense opportunity to leverage Korea’s innovation platforms to support Kenya’s development agenda. The Embassy remains committed to facilitating these partnerships for mutual benefit,” she noted.

The meeting sets the stage for a forthcoming engagement with the Korean Embassy, reflecting a shared vision to deepen cooperation in health research, capacity building, and innovation.

The collaboration marks a significant step in positioning KEMRI within global research networks while strengthening Kenya’s presence in international scientific partnerships
